POWERFUL PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF EXILE
This powerful prayer was suggested by Father Reginaldo Manzotti on his website. According to him, Mary knows all our needs, hurts, sorrows, miseries and hopes and is interested in each of her children. To seek protection, refuge, and security, pray:
“Our Lady of Exile, Mother of God and ours, who suffered the anxieties and uncertainties of flight and exile in distant and unknown Egypt, taking with you the Son threatened with death by Herod, listen to our supplication. Here we are, trusting in your love of a kind and understanding Mother. To you who are already in the definitive homeland, we plead for protection for us pilgrims in this world walking towards the Father in the heavenly Kingdom. We ask your intercession for all families who seek the warmth of a home, the safety of work, the daily bread. You bless this place, this people who trust in you and are honored to call on you as a Patroness.
Intercede for those who suffer, hence health for the sick, lift up the discouraged, restore hope to the helpless of this land. Accompany migrants, refugees, and all who are far from their homeland and family. Support the children, hence the youth, bless the families, encourage the aged. Give us strength to build a living and holy Church and to work for a just and fraternal world. And after our walk in the world show us Jesus, blessed is the fruit before you. O clement, O pious, O sweet ever Virgin, Mary! Our Lady, pray for us. Amen.

ORIGIN OF THE TITLE OF OUR LADY OF DESTERRO
The designation of the Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Exile represents the Holy Family’s escape to Egypt. This title received by Mary has a biblical foundation: in the Gospel of Matthew (Matt. 2: 13-14) it says that after the departure of the Magi, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said: “Rise, take the boy. , his mother and flees to Egypt; stay there until I tell you, because Herod seeks the boy to kill him. ”So Joseph got up, took Mary and Jesus by the hand, and departed for Egypt.
This Our Lady is venerated in Italy as the “Madonna degli Emigrati”, patron of those who were forced to leave their homeland to take refuge or to seek work abroad. She has been the Loving Mother to all who, homesick for her homeland, plead with faith and love for the Virgin of Exile’s help to find understanding and sympathy in the adoptive land.
