We live in an age of endless options. Want a burger with no bun, extra bacon, avocado on the side, and three different sauces? Done. Want your coffee with oat milk, two pumps of vanilla, a dash of cinnamon, and served at exactly 138 degrees? No problem. Cars come in thousands of combinations—color, wheels, sound system, seat warmers, you name it. Houses let you pick the countertops, the flooring, the smart fridge that orders milk for you. Choice is everywhere. We’ve been trained to believe that more options are always better and that everything should bend to our personal preferences.
So it’s no surprise that many people now treat religion the same way. They want a spirituality that fits their lifestyle—something relaxing, positive, light on rules, heavy on good feelings. A faith that never says “no,” never makes them feel guilty, and definitely never claims to be the only right one. A spiritual buffet: take a little meditation from the East, some feel-good sayings from the West, a dash of karma, a sprinkle of angels, and skip anything about sin, judgment, or exclusive truth. It feels freeing. It feels fair. It feels modern.
But here’s the question no one likes to ask: what if truth isn’t like ice cream flavors? What if spiritual reality isn’t something we get to customize?
Imagine you’re lost in the mountains at night. Freezing fog rolls in. You’re tired, scared, and running out of time. Suddenly you see lights—dozens of them—winding up different trails. Some are bright and cheerful, with music playing. Others look ancient and serious. A few are quiet and simple. People on every path shout, “This way! We’re all heading to safety!” Would you shrug and say, “Well, they can’t all be wrong—pick whichever feels best”? Or would you desperately want to know which path actually leads to warmth and rescue—and which ones wander off cliffs?
Every major religion makes massive claims about reality, about God (or no God), about life after death, about what’s wrong with the world and how to fix it. Those claims cancel each other out in important ways. Jesus said He is God in human flesh. Buddha said there is no personal God at all. Krishna said there are millions of gods. Muhammad said there is one God but Jesus was only a prophet, not divine, and definitely not crucified. Someone has to be mistaken. All of them can be wrong, but they cannot all be right.

So how do we find out which voice—if any—speaks the truth?
One claim towers above the rest, because it can actually be tested: the claim that Jesus of Nazareth died on a Roman cross and three days later walked out of His tomb alive. No other founder of a world religion even attempted to prove his message by coming back from the dead. Muhammad didn’t. Buddha didn’t. Confucius didn’t. Joseph Smith didn’t. Only Jesus staked everything on the promise that death could not hold Him.
And the evidence is stronger than most people realize.
- The tomb was empty. Even the enemies of Jesus never denied that. Their explanation was that the body had been stolen—yet they never produced a body to silence the story.
- Roman soldiers faced execution if they failed at guard duty. They weren’t going to fall asleep or let a handful of frightened fishermen roll away a two-ton stone.
- Within weeks, those same terrified followers were publicly proclaiming that Jesus was alive—and they never stopped, even when it cost most of them their lives. People die for things they believe are true. People do not die for something they know is a lie. The disciples would have known if they faked the resurrection. Yet every one of them (except John) was brutally killed rather than change their story.
- Over five hundred people saw the risen Jesus at various times and places. That’s not a hazy vision in the desert or a private dream. That’s public, repeated, verifiable encounter.
No alternative explanation has ever held up. Mass hallucination? Five hundred people don’t share the same delusion for weeks. Stolen body? The guards, the stone, and the disciples’ fear make that impossible. Wrong tomb? The authorities would simply have gone to the right one and ended the movement in a day.
Something happened that first Easter morning that turned cowards into courageous witnesses and changed the world forever.
And because Jesus rose, His words carry weight no one else’s can. When He says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life—no one comes to the Father except through me,” we have to take that seriously. He’s not bragging. He’s stating a fact proven by an empty tomb.
This is where the message gets beautifully offensive and wonderfully freeing at the same time.
It’s offensive because it says every human being—nice or nasty—stands guilty before a holy God. Our good deeds don’t cancel our failures. Our sincerity doesn’t erase our rebellion. We’re lost, and we can’t fix ourselves.

But it’s freeing because Jesus says, “I already fixed it.” He lived the perfect life we couldn’t live, died the death we deserved, and rose to prove the debt is paid in full. The offer is simple: turn from running your own life, trust what He did for you, and you’re welcomed home—forever. No rituals to keep up. No scale to balance. No hoping you were good enough. Just a Savior who says, “It is finished.”
In a world that’s exhausted—addicted, anxious, angry, and aching—Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Real rest. Deep, soul-level rest that no amount of success, therapy, meditation, or custom-built spirituality can provide.
You don’t have to clean yourself up first. You don’t have to understand everything. You just have to come.
If something in you is tired of pretending, tired of performing, tired of shopping for truth that never quite satisfies, then Jesus is not one more option on the menu—He is the destination the menu was pointing to all along.
He’s alive. He’s calling your name. And He will never turn away anyone who comes to Him.
