Rituals You Can Perform For Halloween

Rituals You Can Perform For Halloween

Halloween is a celebration of Celtic origin and was originally known by the Gaelic word “Samhain” (“end of summer”). Different rituals have been associated with this holiday since ancient times. Therefore, in this article we propose a Halloween ritual to celebrate individually or with friends.

Halloween is celebrated on the night of October 31st to November 1st and on this day, the ancient Celts commemorated the Celtic New Year or the end of the harvest. Autumn and its falling leaves marked the end of a period and the beginning of a new cycle.

It is a celebration of transition and opening towards something new. The Celts, along with other pre-Hispanic cultures, believed that during Samhain the veil between the earthly and spiritual worlds narrowed, allowing spirits to cross through. A magical night in which both worlds (the living and the dead) are more united and communicate.

For this reason, we propose the following ritual to thank and honor our past and everything that has brought us to where we are today.

Why a ritual on Halloween

Rituals are a tangible and conscious tool to externalize personal emotions and experiences. They are small acts that help us to become aware and align our psyche towards a purpose. Through rituals, we give meaning to what we have experienced and connect with the lessons learned from past experiences. They help us to mark the processes of change and the passage from one stage to another in our lives.

On such a spiritual night, we suggest you perform a ritual to thank and honor your loved ones. Tonight, we suggest you dedicate some time to creating a “space of love and affection” for those who are no longer with us.

Halloween ritual

Every special person who is no longer present on this plane is still with you in every memory or small detail. And, although they are present in our daily lives, we suggest you dedicate a very mystical night to thank them for their energy, love and affection with which they have accompanied you and continue to accompany you.

Below we leave you with a very beautiful ritual to dedicate to your loved ones. You can perform this ritual alone or in the company of people close to you.

Elements required for Halloween ritual:

  1. White Sage
  2. A white candle.
  3. Paper and something to write with.
  4. Any detail from your loved ones: photographs, books, pendants, a flower that reminds you of that person… Any detail that helps you connect with their essence and energy.

Steps to follow:

  • Perform an energetic cleansing of the space with some incense or incense with cleansing and purifying properties such as copal incense, palo santo, or a bundle of white sage. Remember that, just as we physically cleanse our space and our body, it is also necessary to cleanse your energy field and that of your home. Energy cleansing helps to attract positivity, peace and well-being and relaxes the environment.
  • Once clean, you can create your “altar” or “space of love and affection” for those who are no longer with us. To do this, take an object that reminds you of each of your loved ones. They can be photographs, pendants, a flower that reminds you of that person, any detail that helps you connect with their essence and energy. Once you have them all, start placing them in a space that you like in your house or room. When you have your “altar” or “space of love and affection” light the white candle.
  • Take the piece of paper and something to write on. On this piece of paper, and while the candle is burning, write the name of each loved one and a thank you that you have towards that special person. All written with love, affection, and positivity. Remember that your people continue to accompany you in each of those memories and details that are part of you. If you do it in a group , you can take turns naming and thanking the person to whom you are dedicating that day and that space. You will see that a very nice atmosphere of unity is generated in the group.
  • When you have finished this moment for yourself, burn the paper, let the candle burn out, and give thanks by putting both hands together. The right one represents your conscious part and the left one your unconscious part. By putting them together, you are giving thanks to the Universe (or whoever you want) with all your being.
