There are various ways to understand astrology and its practice. Therefore, adherence to a specific ethical code defines a philosophy and purpose in the practice of this discipline.
The ethical code presented below was agreed upon by a group of professional astrologers after several deliberations, but it is not intended to be an unquestionable model. On the contrary, the points presented are open to discussion, expansion, and/or improvement at any time.
List of Code of Ethics for Astrologers
The code of ethics is written in the first person to indicate the intention and commitment of the person who signs it.
I commit to:
1) To practice astrology with the aim of contributing to my own evolution and that of other human beings, both on a personal and spiritual level.
2) Consider the interpretation of the birth chart as a relational space where astrologer and consultant participate, therefore excluding interpretations by mail and those done automatically by computer.
3) Advise and guide responsibly and constructively, avoiding all fatalism or determinism, and promoting dialogue and collaboration of the person consulting during the interpretation.
4) To make an honest interpretation, based on astrological symbolism and not on supposed paranormal powers, avoiding as much as possible the projection of my personal values and discarding all types of manipulation.
5) Interpret the astrological chart according to my ethics and level of knowledge, refusing to give answers that I consider inappropriate or whose answer I do not know, and emphasizing the consultant’s free will to make their own decisions.
6) To present at all times an image worthy of astrology and of myself, avoiding any staging or theatricality.
7) Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding the identity and astrological data of every person consulting.
8) Do not interpret the birth charts of third parties unless they give their clear and explicit authorization. Such interpretation may be carried out in the case of: a) minors, b) persons incapable of expressing an opinion, c) public and historical figures. In all cases, the interpretation will be approached respectfully and prudently, defining the objective of the study beforehand.
9) Interpreting children’s natal charts only to the parents or responsible educators, providing a relativized and non-conditioning description of the child’s personality and innate potential, which will encourage understanding, support and collaboration to help the child become who they are.
10) Use forecasting techniques to explain evolutionary processes, and never to make catastrophic or sensationalist predictions.
