Have you heard of Chakras ? Much is said about these energy points in our body, however few know of their relative origin, study and function in our behavior and life.
Chakras are a subject of great importance in the world of Yoga. The practice is based on the behavior and strength of these points of our body, developing movements, breathing techniques and body positions with a focus on the proper functioning and energy flow in the seven chakras of the human body.
Beyond the “mystical” content that chakras have acquired in common sense, there is a scientific explanation for such. These locations in our body are of greater blood flow and concentration of nerves, having an essential role in several vital functions.
In addition, the spiritual vision of the chakras entrusts them with a need for balance so that man’s behavior is good in life. The imbalance of these chakras is what is worked on by yoga and meditation.
The chakras are arranged at seven different points in our spine, starting at the coccyx to the top of our head. Get to know them better:
The seven Chakras:
In our body, the seven chakras (Basic, Sexual, Solar Plexus, Cardiac, Laryngeal, Frontal and Coronary) are directly related to the endocrine glands, interfering with specific functions of the organism.
They are also designated by colors related to the terrestrial elements (air, water, fire and earth) with which they have the greatest connection.
Basic Chakra (in Sanskrit: Muladarha = support)
Location: Base of the spine - coccyx.
Color: red.
Physiology: linked to the adrenal gland - control of blood volume, adrenaline hormone and support to body structures.
This chakra influences primary physical needs: eating, sleeping, drinking, having sex, among others. He is your connection to the earth, to what is under you. The imbalance of the basic chakra generates irritation, lack of self-confidence and tension with basic daily activities.
Sacred or sexual chakra (in Sanskrit: Swadhisthana = city of pleasure)
Location: underbelly
Color: Orange
Physiology: linked to female and male renal functions and hormones.
This chakra is linked to sexual reproduction and the human excretory system. It deals with the relationship with family, friends and with oneself. His imbalance influences self-esteem, self-confidence and courage.
Umbilical Chakra or Solar Plexus (in Sanskrit: Manipura = city of jewels)
Location: navel region.
Color: yellow.
Physiology: pancreas and digestive functions.
The umbilical chakra controls a lot of emotions, it can cause nausea and irritation when unbalanced. Its good condition generates pleasure and a feeling of vitality.
Heart Chakra (in Sanskrit: Anahata = Secret heart chamber)
Location: heart height.
Color: green and pink.
Physiology: energy of the chest and respiratory system and also to the immune system.
The heart chakra controls the emotions, compassion and control of the other chakras. When it is not blocked it provides spiritual balance. The opposite causes anger, anguish and even depression.
Throat chakra (in Sanskrit: Vishuddha = blood purifier)
Location: neck region.
Color: light blue
Physiology: thyroid - menstruation control in women.
This point of energy is responsible for protecting the head chakras. It interferes with human expressions and communication. Its “extension” is the hands and arms for actions to be performed.
Frontal chakra (in Sanskrit: Ajna = control center)
Location: forehead height.
Color: blue.
Physiology: pituitary gland.
It represents ideas, reasoning, also takes care of intuition. Its imbalance creates a lack of focus and overload of tasks and thoughts.
Crown chakra (in Sanskrit: Sahashara = thousand-petal lotus)
Location: top of the head.
Color: golden and lilac.
Physiology: epiphysis gland.
The crown chakra is responsible for controlling all body functions and for most of the spiritual balance. This energy point works with consciousness and human sensations and their interpretations. Understands existence, sustains faith and spirituality.
