ARIES-PISCES Relationship

ARIES-PISCES Relationship

Go up to a Ram and say, “As an Aries, you’re probably a creative person,” and the Ram will reply, “You bet! I’m full of original ideas. Do you want me to pitch you some?” Go up to a Fish and say, “As a Pisces, you probably participate in some water sports?” and the Fish will reply, “Well, I don’t know about them, but… um, which one do you think I should participate in? I guess I could learn…” Go up to a Ram and say, “If you keep going the way you’re going now, you’ll never become a leader,” and the Aries will reply, “Do you want me to hit you?” Go up to a Fish and say, “If you keep going the way you’re going now, you’ll never become a leader,” and the Pisces will reply, “Really? Gosh, I hope you’re right.” The pattern that gradually emerges in the case of the Ram is one of aggression, sometimes exaggerated. The pattern that gradually emerges in the case of the Fish is one of accommodation, also sometimes exaggerated. Aries, of course, is a Fire sign, and Pisces is a Water sign. There is a marked difference between the aggression of Aries and the accommodation of Pisces, and to make sure I have made the difference clear, I will give another example. A Ram has walked up to the counter and ordered a takeaway pizza.

Clerk: Okay. Here’s a pizza! How do you want it, with mushrooms or with green peppers?

RAM: Neither one nor the other. With black olives and onion. And be careful not to burn it, like the last time I was here.

Now, a Fish has approached the counter and orders a pizza, to go.

Clerk: Okay. Here’s a pizza! How about it, with mushrooms or green peppers?

FISH: Well, let’s see… what do most customers order?

SALESMAN: We sell a lot of them with mushrooms.

FISH: Mushrooms. I’ll take mine with mushrooms.

Clerk: Of course, I personally prefer green peppers.

FISH: Oh, well… um, could I change the order to a pizza with green peppers?

SALESMAN: Of course, but listen… why don’t you order it the way you like it? Don’t let me influence you.

FISH: Well… can it be two pizzas… one with mushrooms and one with peppers?

You see that Pisces is accommodating. What you may not see, however, is the wealth of motivations behind this. Good-natured Fishes really love to please people, when they can. All Pisces dread the embarrassment of open confrontation, and they dislike having attention focused on them. But there is also a more subtle reason why Pisces are reluctant to compromise a personal opinion: they are always on the lookout for spies, because they are terrified of “Big Brother.” The fact that a stranger walks past a Pisces in an airport, carrying a suitcase, can send them into a nervous panic. They are very suspicious. Someday, make a list of your Pisces friends whose phone numbers are not listed in the directory. It will be interesting. When a Ram meets a Fish, he assumes he is meeting a sweet soul. The gentle, gentle Aries can toss it about more or less at will. I’m sorry to say that this is what fiery Aries often tries to do to watery Pisces. But the Ram should study science—and the Bible. Science will teach him all there is to know about the elements called earth, air, fire, and water—and that water can be dangerous to fire. Raise the flame of a lighter as high as you like, then dip it into a glass of water. One snap—psh—and it goes out. Although water appears to be the weakest of the elements, it is actually the strongest. A few drops of water falling consistently on a rock for a long enough period of time will wear it down to fine sand.

I know an Aries landlord who impulsively raised the rent on an apartment where a Pisces lady lived. She took the news sweetly, with gentle, feminine submission. However, the Aries landlord has spent the last eight months in and out of court. She sends him little notes about leaky pipes and such (one drop at a time, obviously), and he still hasn’t been able to raise the rent. Before the trial is over, he’ll probably lower it. The secret of Water’s great power is passivity. Water doesn’t resist. Throw a pebble into the river, and what happens? Water doesn’t resist the object that penetrates its gentleness. Water simply opens up, devours the pebble, covers it… and moves on. The Nazarene associates the force of Water’s powerful passivity with the human personality. “Do not resist the evil one,” advised Jesus, whose birth, by the way, inaugurated the age of Pisces, almost two thousand years ago. The Pisces are influenced by the mysterious and infinite wisdom of Neptune, and so they rarely resist the more aggressive Rams, driven by the fiery force of the red planet, Mars. Aries often find that Pisces have a calming, cooling effect on their inflamed frustrations. Generally, the association between them benefits both. Each sun sign carries, in its karmic memory, the seeds of experiences drawn from the sun sign that immediately precedes it in the astrological wheel of life… and conversely, many lessons can be learned from the nature and qualities of the sun sign that immediately follows one’s own.

This is a 2-12 Sun Sign pattern, meaning that Aries represents the second astrological house for Pisces, and Pisces represents the twelfth astrological house for Aries. Translated. Aries will always symbolize money for Pisces, in one way or another, whether in a negative or positive sense. Money will somehow be a vital consideration and a frequent topic of discussion between them. For the Rams, the Fish represents many secrets, which Pisces generally hides and does not reveal, much to Aries’ annoyance. Or if not annoyed, the two will spend a lot of time discussing secrets… or each other’s past woes. Sometimes the secretive syndrome is beneficial, but you can be sure that either way, money and secretiveness will form the foundation, in various forms, of any partnership between the Ram and the Fish, whether they are involved as friends, relatives, partners, lovers or consorts. “Secrets” can encompass all disciplines related to the occult, the esoteric or the metaphysical, such as astrology, hypnotism, astral travel, telepathy and the like. Sooner or later, these disciplines will be of mutual interest to any Aries-Pisces combination, regardless of sex, age or relationship, and the same goes for all 2-12 Sun Sign Patterns.

Since Pisces is behind Aries on the karmic wheel, the Ram experiences an instinctive tolerance for the weaknesses of the Fish, and somehow understands its behavior, even though it differs immensely from its own. Every Aries has spiritually experienced the passivity and submissiveness of the Piscean nature, and that is why Aries, in the present incarnation, leans so vehemently toward the opposite extreme to the humility of the Fish: ego. Despite its impetuousness, the Rams retain in their karmic soul the memory of the Piscean experience, as shown by their hidden vulnerability to injury, and the speed with which Aries compassion and generosity can be awakened. However, the Rams are not willing to risk any masochism (overtly, at least) in this life. One might say that Aries understands and appreciates the attitude of Pisces without envying it, and without condemning it. The Arians have already received their report card in the spiritual school of Pisces, thank you, and they prefer not to go back to it. They did not like the teacher (Neptune) very much. And the same goes for all the sun signs, all around the circumference of the natal wheel, again and again, until all the necessary lessons are learned and the soul can graduate and move from the earth-flesh level of consciousness and existence to another, higher and more individual consciousness.

Because of this 2-12 influence, the Fish will never fail to look up to Aries as if he has something important to teach him, and unlike most Sun signs in their relationship with the sign in front of them, Pisces is almost always happy to imitate the Rams and learn from them. (Water is not only the strongest and most powerful of the four elements; it is also the wisest, and therefore the strongest.) In general, there is a pleasant compatibility between the Ram and the Fish, and neither of them has any great desire to meddle in the other’s life philosophy, but prefers instead to complement it. However, there are times when they have some heated (Aries) or icy (Pisces) clashes. The outspoken Ram is irritated by the sometimes slippery tactics of the evasive Fish. I know a Pisces from Colorado who once said to me pleasantly (Pisces are almost always pleasant), “Well, you know what I always say… promise anything and then walk away from it. That’s my motto.”

The Fishes confess their little faults with unusual glee. This system of backing out of a commitment with the utmost naturalness can occasionally raise a barrier between the Pisces and the very upright, naively truthful Rams, who usually react with open resentment when the Fishes swim off alone from time to time to exchange whispered secrets on the ocean… or who may feel wronged and abandoned if the Pisces slips away behind some fresh seaweed to comfort their weary souls, leaving no trail to mark their whereabouts. But the kindly Fish does not mean any harm. Deprived of the hard horns of the Ram, and of the emotional, spiritual and mental energy of Mars, the Neptune soul has no other recourse to protect itself from the lacerating daily existence in this unpleasant world, from the wear and tear of life’s problems. The Pisces motto, “Promise anything and then walk away,” may seem fallacious, but it’s a philosophy that keeps the Fish young and calm… and keeps them from falling on the psychiatrist’s couch. It also allows them to conserve their energy, so they can stay calm enough to listen to other people’s problems for hours on end. Likewise, for the Rams, imposture is still imposture.
