ARIES-GEMINI Relationship

Aries-Gemini Relationship

It wasn’t really Saturday night, at least it might as well have been, because they had long since lost count of the days; but whenever they wanted to do something special they would say it was Saturday night, and do it. If they worked together, this combination of Sun signs could sell anything they wanted. Because Aries and Gemini love noble causes, and because they share the same talent for being creative and persevering salesmen, they can pull off fabulous feats of ingenuity together. They also share a cavalier attitude toward the accumulation of large amounts of power or money, and perhaps this explains why they are so rarely as successful as they should be, considering the emotional (Aries) and mental (Gemini) energy they put into anything they care about—for the moment, that is. Nothing holds the interest of either of these Sun signs for more than a minute. Well, sometimes for two or three minutes. Since Aries is filled with naive impetuosity, and Gemini is determined to achieve absolute independence by breaking all the bonds of the spirit, it is rare that their reciprocal activities are supported by maturity of thought.

The combined qualities of the partnership between this 3-11 Sun Sign Pattern could be said to paint a picture of optimism, punctuated by brief (usually very brief) stretches of sensitivity and hidden insecurities. When Aries and Gemini merge their natures as neighbors, friends, partners, relatives, lovers, or spouses, their individual quests to break free from all who would tie them down in a morass of conventional norms and precautions are doubled. Separated or together, they look young, act young—and therefore, quite naturally, often behave in a childlike manner. Now, children can be endearing and candid, and can inspire affection. They can also be unintentionally selfish, irrational, and inconsiderate. The same is true of any partnership arranged between this team placed under the 3-11 influence. It is preferable that both, or at least one of them, mature eventually, because otherwise most of their time together will be spent playing in a sandpit with a couple of brightly colored buckets and big shovels, in search of what everyone knows they are experts at foisting on each other and on the rest of the world.

Basically, both Aries and Gemini are honest—especially the Rams—but both can fool themselves into forgetting where honesty ends and self-deception begins. This is because they are either naïve or ignorant—who knows which—when it comes to their own individual natures. In other words, both are just as adept at selling something to themselves as they are at selling it to the general public. If the product they are selling is not genuine, Gemini will almost always be the first to suspect it, with Mercury’s sharp, analytical mind, though he or she is also capable of fooling himself (or herself), and will continue to imagine that the product may still be what he or she originally thought it was. As for Aries, this Sun sign finds it awfully difficult to tell the difference between what shines so enticingly—and the real gold. The Ram only learns to discriminate after repeated and dramatic disappointments and disillusionments.

I’ve been talking about “the two of them.” Actually, I should probably say “the three of them,” because while Aries is obviously one person, indivisible, “with liberty and justice for all,” every Gemini is clearly two people, the one he/she really is… and the person he/she would like to be. You know, the Twins. Throw in the ego of the Ram—an almost autonomous entity—and you could have quite a mess, with all these auras mixing, attracting and repelling, merging and colliding, alternately. It might not be a bad idea for people with these two Sun signs, despite their essentially compatible condition, to separate themselves from each other from time to time and look at each other with fresh eyes from afar. This will clear away some of the thick fog that must necessarily accumulate between them. Aries attacks instinctively, convinced of the sincerity of his cause as well as of ultimate triumph, and has little or no time to ponder the pros and cons of any given situation or problem. Conversely, Gemini weighs, individualizes, and teases out all possible maneuvers and conclusions with the cool, casual objectivity and logic that is so typical of the three Air signs (Aquarius and Libra being the other two). However, Gemini may not be practical-minded, for all his mental acrobatics. Gemini can quickly deduce what might go wrong, but often resolves to outwit fate or destiny, and even himself (or herself), by clever Mercurial strategy. There are other differences of judgment between these two.

Aries, influenced by a cardinal sign, will insist on leading, leading, challenging, initiating and inspiring always, with enthusiasm and boldness. The Ram will accept almost any idea, sensible or foolish, that captivates and stimulates his emotions–and with which his ego can associate himself in a personal way. The fickle Gemini prefers to associate impersonally, and will accept ideas that are congenial to the deductive mental process. He will communicate through the logic and sagacity of Mercury’s reason, while his true personality remains in the background, attentive, unsuspecting of those who are mesmerized by Gemini’s charm. Aries likes to ride the elephant at the head of the column and wave to the crowd, but the Twins do not entertain the all-consuming desire to become heroes or heroines. Gemini would prefer to delegate to others all the constricting duties and obligations of leadership, and remain free of responsibility, free to test the merit of new ideas… to explore new people, new places or things.

Gemini analysis is less vehement than Aries, because the mental computer calmly examines everything for possible flaws—or virtues. Although Gemini’s approach is essentially intellectual, the Twins sympathize with the Ram’s emotional attitude, while maintaining their independence from this over-involvement. Mercury-ruled men and women understand the reckless impulses of Mars. They realize, however, that it is in their own best interest to avoid emotional complications whenever possible. Geminis are wary of close human relationships that threaten to smother them, of long-term employment without change or stimulation—of anything that immobilizes their dreams or clips Mercury’s wings, for fear that their own spirit will be imprisoned. The Air sign of Gemini yearns to soar above the flames that rage around the Fire sign of Aries. By keeping to themselves and slightly aloof, Gemini more often manages to achieve the kind of freedom that Aries also desires but doesn’t always get. Of course, too much mental and emotional freedom can create its own confusions, and when the Twins get caught in the web of their own mental twists and turns, sometimes the Ram’s own self-assurance can help untie the knots.

Fortunately, the typical Aries not only senses Gemini’s duality but is willing to give it space to exist. This is why this partnership is often beneficial to the Gemini, because understanding—or misunderstanding—of his dreams goes a long way in determining whether they materialize, simply take off, or become mere pipe dreams that Gemini always pursues but never achieves. Gemini will dream from early childhood well into the twentieth century. Most people interpret Mercury’s curiosity and urge to experiment as a mosaic of eccentric and fickle desires, but the Ram seems to understand that this myriad of interests is only Gemini’s effort to integrate the multifaceted Mercurial personality that so fascinates Aries. Aries is less likely to dislike Gemini’s flitting from one subject to another, seeking all the answers, while unleashing a continuous torrent of imagination and ecstatic energy. Interrupting a mercurial bird while it is expressing itself verbally is like trying to catch a firefly, and interestingly, Rams (who are themselves relatively adept at interruptions) understand this. These two continually interrupt each other, with a reciprocal lack of resentment, and this is a very endearing detail of their partnership.

If there is a negative aspect between the Sun and the Moon or the Ascendant in their birth charts, Aries may accuse Gemini of daydreaming too much and not doing enough concrete things, and try to corner Gemini into direct responses. Perhaps then Gemini’s caustic tongue will hurt the Ram’s ultrasensitive ego, and a fierce battle will erupt, with sparks flying in all directions as Gemini’s insubstantial attitude fans the flames of Mars’ anger. However, the winds will change after a while, even after the most tempestuous scenes – and almost never will either of them let resentment linger. As with all 3-11 vibrational configurations, Aries and Gemini are basically good friends, and almost always remain so. They are also able to verbally communicate their differences of opinion as long as it takes to clear the air and resume harmonious relationship.

The mercurial mind of Gemini, though sometimes cleverly disguised by a mask of poise and friendliness, is very restless. It spins continually. Aries will happily ride it, and probably enjoy the dizzying experience. As long as the Ram doesn’t try to imprison Gemini’s free spirit with too many questions and demands, the two will get along quite well. (The four of them, if you count the Ram, the Twins, and the ego of Mars.) Aries and Gemini can build, out of the multi-colored ether of their combined mental images, sand castles high enough to reach the stars. But the foundations must be solid and stable, or they will collapse. If they build solidly from the beginning, the end product can be truly portentous: a sum of rainbows, butterflies, and pixies. Patience is the secret key to getting to the other side of the fence, where the grass always seems greener and fresher to Aries and Gemini, the eternally young, who are in search of magical places. Together, they have a better chance than most people of finding those places… and even a better chance than they would have had if they had undertaken the search alone.
